Sharanya Vaidhiyanathan is an Advocate practising in the Madras High Court and is a Senior Associate at Nataraj, Rao, Raghu and Sundaram, a law firm in Chennai. She completed her under graduation in law at the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai, with a distinction. During her third year of college, having qualified the national rounds, she was a part of the team that represented School of Excellence in Law at the International rounds of the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition held at Washington D.C.. Notably this was the first team of the School of Excellence in Law to qualify for the international rounds. She had during her final year participated at the 21st Annual William.C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Vienna, Austria. She thereafter pursued her masters in law at the University College London, London, United Kingdom. Carriage of Goods by sea was one of the modules, which she studied along with International Arbitration, cross border mergers and acquisitions and international law of foreign investment. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators London. Her passion for writing stemmed from listening to her father, an advocate, Mr. M. Vaidyanathan, dictate pleadings. She was the executive editor of the Indian Student Law Review, a Law Journal of the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai, India. She had the opportunity to assist Mr. Sriram Panchu, senior Counsel and the architect of mediation in India to write an article titled, “Mediation: An Overview”. She practices in the fields of corporate law including matters under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, maritime litigation and arbitration, consumer protection, intellectual property and contract drafting and negotiations. With keen interests in the field of shipping and corporate law, she aspires to specialise in maritime law, mediation and arbitration.
